DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A judge has rejected an attorney's request to move a woman accused of driving her van full of children into the ocean to a less-restricted facility.
In 2014, tourists captured dramatic cellphone video of Ebony Wilkerson driving her minivan, carrying her three children, into the ocean off Daytona Beach. A judge determined the South Carolina mother was insane at the time.
Wilkerson has been in state care for about nine months, committed after the judge ordered a minimum of six months.

Wilkerson has had limited contact with her children since then.
She had been treated for mental health issues before the incident in Daytona Beach. In December, the judge said Wilkerson minimized her mental health issues. The judge also said Wilkerson lacked insight into her mental health problems.
The three children involved in the incident are in state custody. She gave birth to a son after her arrest, and her husband took custody of the child.
