JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville City Council came together Monday to hear from community members about an e-bike ordinance.

The meeting was hosted by Councilman Michael Boylan. Among the proposed changes to the ordinance are a 10 mile per hour speed limit on sidewalks for e-bikes and a minimum riding age of 11 years.

Action News Jax spoke with a member of the group Bike Walk Jax, who said they want to help the city find solutions for e-bike riders.

“Our belief is that providing protected and safe infrastructure is really the true long-term solution, giving those modes somewhere where they do belong on the roadway,” Lauren Johnson, chair of Bike Walk Jax, said.

Boylan said the push for an e-bike ordinance comes as more kids are being hurt in e-bike accidents.
