Jacksonville food shoppers concerned about latest recalls for beef, eggs

Beef and eggs are grocery store staples, but millions of pounds of those products are now under recall.

Arizona Company JBS Tolleson is recalling more than 3,000 tons of beef across the country after dozens of people have gotten sick.

“I can’t believe it. It’s awful,” said Jacksonville shopper Veronica McBurse.

The beef may be contaminated with salmonella.

The USDA said 57 patients from 16 states got sick after eating the company's beef.

“Being a beef eater myself, I would be very concerned about what’s going into my body – but not just mine, but my children and my grandchildren,” said Jacksonville shopper Sandra Skipper.

Action News Jax went through the list of hundreds of recalled beef products and found 21 products were shipped to Florida and 29 were shipped to Georgia.

The beef was sold under brand names Walmart, Cedar River Farms Natural Beef, Showcase and JBS Generic.

The beef was packaged between July 26 and Sept. 7.

“I think it’s a good thing that they notify the public about it so that we can be aware and get rid of any food that’s not good for us,” said McBurse.

Gravel Ridge Farms is also recalling cage free large eggs sold in three states, including Georgia, because of potential salmonella.

You may have heard about a ham recall as well after one person died.

Action News Jax checked and the USDA said Johnston County Hams did not sell the recalled ham in Florida or Georgia.
