Jacksonville Walmart put ‘We proudly support American jobs' signs on foreign products

Photos from a customer show a Jacksonville Walmart put signs that say “We proudly support American jobs” on foreign products ahead of Memorial weekend.

Don Myers said he took the photos Friday at the Englewood Walmart on Philips Highway.

Myers said, at first, he was happy to see the signs -- until he realized not all of the products were made in America.

“This seemed like it was just in time for Memorial Day,” Myers said

Myers’ photos show the “We proudly support American jobs” signs above a slow cooker that was made in China, an air conditioning unit that was made in China, a TV that was assembled in Mexico, and more.

“I went and got the manager. And the manager disagreed and said that this is their policy. That even though the products aren’t made in this country, that they are still providing American jobs by distributing those products,” Myers said.

When Action News Jax went inside the store Tuesday, the signs that were over foreign products had been taken down.

“It should’ve never happened,” Myers said

The Walmart stores in Regency and on Beach Boulevard near Hodges Boulevard didn’t have the signs at all.

At the Walmart on Beach Boulevard near Southside Boulevard, Action News Jax spotted one of the signs over pillows, which had tags saying the fabric was made in Taiwan, sewn in China, and filled and finished in the USA.

Action News Jax asked Walmart media relations Tuesday morning about the company’s policy for the “We proudly support American jobs” signs. No one has responded to our questions yet.
