JFRD: Woman found dead in Arlington house fire

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman was found dead in a fire at a manufactured home on Tuesday night in the 10000 block of North Patterson Circle in Arlington.

At 5:30 p.m., the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the fire, as well as reports that someone was possibly trapped inside, according to JFRD spokesman Tom Francis.

As crews were making their way to the fire, a column of smoke could be seen from the Mathews Bridge.

The first arriving crew encountered heavy flames pouring out of every visible window and were repelled by intense heat. Crews at the scene had to make sure that low-hanging tree branches did not catch on fire.

Eventually, they were able to make their way into the trailer and bring the fire under control, Francis said.

The woman was found dead after the fire was under control. Her age and personal information are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Francis said the State Fire Marshal has been notified and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office homicide unit has been called in to investigate.

Neighbors Action News spoke with say the woman had just returned from riding her bike when the fire started. Neighbors were also upset, as they too could not get inside the home to try and save her.
