JSO: Car crashed through fence, landed in dried rentention pond

Police said a man on Goldilocks Lane was the victim of a carjacking and a shooting Monday morning.

JSO said the suspect took off in the victim's Mercedes.

Police spotted the car and did a pit maneuver, causing the car to crash through a fence and land in a dried-up retention pond.

Neighbor Carlos Correia said he saw the crash.

“After the car went through the fence, I seen the car go boom!” Correia said.

“When the suspect went airborne and into the retention pond, the suspect did not come out willingly,” said Jacksonville Sheriffs officer Melissa Bujeda.

And once out, officers said the suspect tried to run but didn’t get far.

“The suspect did not come out willingly. He came out not realizing that he was surrounded by police and was at gunpoint,” Bujeda said.

JSO said a gun was found inside the Mercedes.

Police said the victim was shot in the chest but has non-life threatening injuries.
