JSO: Man in teal Jaguars shirt robs gas station, shoots owner

PHOTOSTerrifying images show moment BP owner was shot

The owner of the BP gas station on Arlington Expressway is in critical condition after being shot during a robbery on Wednesday, his son said.

Vipin Sharam's son tells Action News Jax that his father lost a lot of blood after a man came into his business, demanded money then fired a single shot.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the suspect ran off and got away with some cash.

JSO released surveillance photos after the robbery. The suspect is described as a black male, about 6-feet tall weighing approximately 240 lbs.

Witnesses say he was wearing a Jacksonville Jaguars T-shirt, black shorts, black shades and carrying a black and silver semi-automatic handgun.

Larry Douglas said he visits the store frequently and is hoping for the best for Sharam.

"He was cool with everybody, with all his customers," said Douglas.  "Just kind of walked around freely -- just didn’t even stay inside the glass cage."

Police told Action News Jax at 12:40 p.m. that the victim was in surgery at Memorial Hospital.

Sharam’s son took the crime scene tape down Wednesday with the help of another employee.

He didn’t want to go on camera, but did give Action News Jax pictures of his father. He said he's in critical condition.

Frequent visitors to the store are having a hard time processing how this could happen to someone they described as peaceful.

"I’m out of words with it, you know?" Douglas asked.

Police said the suspect was not seen entering a vehicle and took off running north of the store.

Officers are asking anyone with information about the identity or location of the suspect in the photos asked to call JSO at 904-630-0500 or email JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org.
