Kid Care Report: Local preschool cited for 5 violations, Southside day care has clean inspection

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In this week’s Kid Care Report Letisha Bereola visited a local day care in after the Department of Children and Families said it had an issue with its outdoor play area.

Lakewood United Methodist Preschool first opened in 2010 as an extension to Lakewood United Methodist Church.

In a recent inspection by DCF, it was flagged for five violations. Two of them were class 2 violations which could pose a serious threat to the health and safety of a child.

TRENDING:

The first class 2 violation was for a 7-inch gap in the fence that could allow children to exit the outdoor play area near San Jose Boulevard – a major road in Jacksonville.

Bereola checked its re-inspection report and the center is back in compliance after the gap was fixed.

The second class 2 violation was for three child care employees working with missing background check documentation. They can’t return to work until the background check results are given to DCF.

Bereola paid a visit  to speak with someone in the church to discuss the violations but was told the director wasn’t there.  Bereola left her number and is waiting hear back from the director.

The second day care in this week’s Kid Care Report had a clean inspection: Bright Horizons Avenues on Southside Boulevard.

The last time it had any violations was back in 2017 for some paperwork not being signed.
