Mom claims teacher said 'let them fight' after daughter punched by boy at school

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A local mom said a teacher did nothing to stop kids from fighting in the classroom at a school where we have shown you at least one other fight has happened.

This is the third parent in two weeks who's come out and said their child was either punched or jumped right in front of teachers at Jefferson Davis Middle School.

Last Tuesday, we obtained video of three girls allegedly jumping another girl right in front of a school official who we're told didn't do anything to stop it.

Then on Wednesday, a woman told us her niece was jumped by three boys. Now a mother says her daughter was punched by a boy inside the classroom Friday.

"They were arguing back and forth and she put her hand in his face, and he moved her hand out of his face and punched her," said Dinitra Williams.

Williams said the teacher did nothing, and what's worse is what she said was said to the students.

"The teacher was like, 'No, let her go. Let them go. Let them fight. If they fight they're going to get suspended, I'm not breaking it up, let her go, let her fight,'" Williams said.

We were there when Williams went back to the school to submit her complaint against the teacher.

"It's a classroom, not a boxing ring. You're supposed to teach them better, not teach them worse," Williams said.

We reached out to Duval County Public Schools to get some answers. We're told the principal is investigating both the fight and the teacher's actions.

"They switched her out of that teacher's classroom and they switched her schedule," Williams said of her daughter.

What's got her and other parents concerned is how safe their kids really are inside these classrooms at Jefferson Davis.

Not only is the mother pressing charges against the boy, she's also following through with her complaints against this teacher and is considering finding a new school for her son and daughter.
