Multiple tires slashed in Ponte Vedra Beach neighborhood

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Multiple people living in a quiet Ponte Vedra Beach neighborhood reported that their tires were slashed.

"We went out in the morning, and one of our tires was flat," resident John Dunsford said. "When we looked around, we noticed three or four other cars, one car had all four tires punctured from the side, and one car was keyed."

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said there were seven similar reports of damaged tires, all made Monday, with at least four of them from the same neighborhood.

It's not the first time a community has been hit like this.

Last week, people living in a Nocatee neighborhood also had multiple cars with tires that were slashed.

"When we see incidents like this, many times it is a person of youth, given an age range of 15 to 20 potentially, and they're just out, and they're doing this for kicks," said SJSO Cmdr. Chuck Mulligan.

Dunsford said he considers himself lucky since he had only one tire slashed and said he used it as a chance for his son to learn a new skill.

"I actually used this as an opportunity to teach my 16-year-old son how to change a flat tire, so we put on a spare," Dunsford said.

Dunsford said this kind of criminal mischief seems to pop up more around the holidays.

"The same thing happened a few years ago," Dunsford said. "It always seems to happen this time of year, Christmas, Thanksgiving. It seems like people are out doing this kind of thing, so it's kind of frustrating."

The SJSO said they do not currently have any suspects and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
