NCSO: Neighbor of Nassau woman opens fire into her home, fatally shoots himself on front porch

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man opened fire into a woman’s home and then took his own life on her front doorstep.

According to the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday, Nov. 23, just before 5:30 p.m., deputies received a 911 call in reference to a shooting involving two people.

911 Operator: “Nassau County 9-1-1 what’s your emergency?”

Caller: “I’ve been shot and there’s a man dead on my porch.”

Caller: “Get an ambulance here, please.”

Operator: “Where are you shot at?”

Caller: “In my arm and my shoulder.”

Operator: “Where is he at?”

Caller: “He’s dead on my front porch. He killed himself.”

When deputies arrived at the home on Otter Run Drive in the Otter Run Subdivision, they discovered a man fatally shot in the head outside on the front porch. A woman was found inside with two gunshot wounds to the arm and shoulder, NCSO says.

The woman was transported to UF Health Downtown Jacksonville with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say there had been an ongoing dispute between the suspect and the victim’s family.

One neighbor didn’t feel comfortable talking on camera but said he’d known the man across the street for six years, saying he was a really nice person but seemed to “snap” about a week ago, and completely changed.

In the 911 call the operator asks the woman why the man shot her, she replied:

Caller: “He’s been crazy for a few days ... He said he doesn’t like us because I’m a gossip.”

Deputies believe the suspect, who lived across the street, approached the front door of the victim’s residence and observed through the window the homeowner (female victim) sitting in a front office area.

The female victim told deputies that when she saw the suspect, he pointed a handgun at her and fired one shot through the window, hitting her in the arm. When she attempted to run, deputies say the suspect fired another shot that struck the victim a second time.

NCSO said the suspect took his own life by fatally shooting himself on the front porch. The shooting is reportedly still under investigation.
