Saltwater Cowgirls get stolen surfboards back after chop shop bust

People who had their stuff stolen by a local theft ring are now able to come forward and get their things back.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office busted the chop shop theft ring on Wednesday at a house in Jacksonville’s Phoenix Community.

Action News Jax first reported in August about thieves stealing from a local surf camp for girls.

The thieves took a trailer full of 30 surf boards and wet suits.

Lesley Curry, owner of Saltwater Cowgirls, said JSO located 10 of their stolen surf boards buried underneath the house.

"We really just felt so violated when they were taken from us," Curry said.

But Curry said they weren't in the best condition.

"A lot of grit and grime and nicks and dings, and have definitely been abused a bit," Curry said.

The boards range in prices from $150 to $450. Curry's business partner Lorraine Hernandez is shocked over the orchestration involving the suspected theft ring.

"The lengths people would go to (in order) to hide the bad things that they will do," Hernandez said.

JSO arrested Guy "Charlie" George along with James Walker in this chop shop.

Both of them have been praying that they'd recover 10 surf boards for a girls camp needed in May.

"We prayed, ‘Lord, if we have a few, it would be amazing,’ and to have that exact number that we wanted is amazing," said Curry.

For the Saltwater Cowgirls, their prayers were answered.
