St. Johns County construction site burglarized

Homes are going up in St.Johns County, but parts are disappearing.

On Tuesday Stephanie Fromm told Action News Jax her oven and microwave were stolen from her house during the construction phase.

“We were very surprised because it was just sitting here for awhile waiting for the electrician to install it, and we saw it every time we came over here, then one time it wasn’t,” she described.

A report from the Sheriff’s Office says thousands of dollars in copper piping was stolen from HVAC units on four different Fresnel Lane lots.

“It’s very sad that they’re having to replace that and I’m sure that’s a lot of money for the builder,” said Fromm.

Action News Jax reached out to Mattamy Homes, the builder listed on the report.

A superintendent said construction site burglaries are rampant.

Other January reports show appliance burglaries at construction sites in different areas of the county.

“I definitely think it would be in our best interest if the builder, to hire someone to patrol at least at night,” Fromm said.

She’s said she’s hopeful the crime will end when construction is complete.
