• The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office investigates deadly shooting on Baymeadows Road near FSCJ

    The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is searching for a gunman linked to a deadly shooting where two people were shot. One victim died at the hospital.

    The shooting happened at an apartment complex near the Florida State College of Jacksonville Deerwood campus on Old Baymeadows Road. 

    Police are investigating the homicide and were on the scene earlier, collecting evidence and focusing their attention around a red car in the parking lot near Fidelity Bank. 

    Other police officers combed the nearby Baymeadows Apartment Complex for evidence.

    Action News Jax spoke with people who shop and eat at Deer Wood Village shopping plaza in the area who were surprised a deadly shooting took place nearby. 

    Monte was having a drink at a coffee shop when he heard about the shooting. 

    “Wow... Well, it happens everywhere, but it’s scary,” said Monte, a man who just moved to Duval County from South Carolina. 

    A few stores down, David Klepadlo was waiting for the smoke shop to open when he learned of the news.

    Klepadlo has been living in the area for the last three years. “Being in Duval County, seems like there’s a killing every other day, and I hate saying that, but... it’s sad,” he said. 

    We took a look at some of the crime in the area with JSO’s crime map. In the last month, there’s been at least 26 reported crimes.

    The majority of crimes reported were for larceny or assault within a mile of where this shooting happened.

    Monte told Action News Jax that despite what happened, it won’t stop him from coming back to this plaza on Baymeadows Road.   

    “You just keep on moving, just hope the world be a better place, you know... That’s all I think, pray for everybody,” he said.
