Jacksonville, Fl — We’re saying goodbye to 2021 with record-high temperatures and ringing in the New Year with some of the hottest temps ever recorded in Jacksonville for the month of January.
Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh says while we should be in the mid-60s this time of year, temperatures will be soaring into the 80s the next several days.
“I’m forecasting 86 on Saturday so that would be the hottest temperature we’ve ever experienced in December or January in Jacksonville records”, Buresh said.

But the winter heatwave doesn’t last long as a strong cold front will move through our area on Sunday, bringing with it bands of showers and thunderstorms. “At least gusty winds with this band of storms but perhaps some severe weather. So we’ll keep you updated of course round the clock and as necessary late Sunday and Sunday evening”.
And then following that there will be a sharp temperature drop as we’ll be into the low to mid 40s come Monday morning with a gusty wind making it feel like its 30 to 35 degrees.
Stay weather aware on Sunday and through the New Year by downloading the WOKV App and setting up our severe weather alerts so you know when storms are coming to your neighborhood.
HOLIDAY WEATHER HEADLINES: Warm end to 2021... No need for the rain gear as we ring in the New Year tomorrow night! BUT don't keep it too out of reach because a strong cold front will arrive Sunday.
