JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Parking in downtown Jacksonville can get pretty chaotic..
"It's frustrating coming downtown on a regular day, much less a big holiday or event," Justin Cobb said.
Thousands of people are expected to flood The Landing tonight, but if you know which roads are open and which ones aren't, your trip should be easier. The following roads downtown are scheduled to be closed from now until 2 a.m. on Saturday:
· Hogan Street from Water Street to the St. Johns River
· Sister Cities Plaza from Hogan Street to the cul-de-sac
· Independent Drive from Hogan Street to Laura Street
· Coastline Drive from The Jacksonville Landing to Newnan Street
"This time I played it smart, came down two days in advance, got a place at the Omni. Don't have to worry about it," Jimmy Molchan said.
The Landing has a parking garage for visitors -- plus, you can snag a metered spot if you find one.
Carpooling is also a big help.
Despite options, some say they'll simply avoid the area altogether.
"We're actually probably going to watch from Baker Point Park near the Ortega Bridge -- so we can avoid the parking disaster," Cobb said.
The Main Street Bridge and the Acosta Bridge will also be closed during the fireworks show -- which starts at 9:45 p.m. right over the river. They will reopen once it's safe to do so after the show. In the meantime, traffic will detour to the Fuller Warren Bridge.
