Yulee parents upset after school toilets stop working

Parents of students at Yulee Primary School are upset after power outages caused toilets to stop working at the school.

Nassau County officials say the school lost power Monday causing the school's well pump to stop working.

FPL restored power to the school Monday and the toilets were working again by 3:45 p.m.

Power went out again Tuesday morning and the wells stopped working when backup power from a generator kicked on, officials said.

The toilets were out of service Tuesday until approximately 11:30 a.m.

The district brought in water coolers and port-a-potties but said they weren’t needed.

"Beyond upset with Yulee Primary School today!" one parent wrote on Facebook. "The school currently has no power or water for the second day in a row."

The parent claimed feces was floating in classroom toilets and urine was on the floor, which district officials said was not true.

"Their solution is to bring in port-o-potties. Like K to third-graders can use those and keep in sanitary," the parent said.

District officials said the school is still using a generator and hopes power will be restored at any moment.

Parent's full statement:

"Beyond upset with Yulee Primary School today! The school currently has no power or water for the second day in a row. There is literally poop floating in the classroom toilets and pee on the floor. Their solution is to bring in portopotties. Like k-3rd graders can use those and keep in sanitary. I can't imagine what the school board is thinking on this. Oh wait, yes I can. They would rather have those teachers and children in there to check an attendance box than to miss another day of school. Who is responsible for this mess?<br/> Edited: Yes they say that they did get their power back. It had been out all day yesterday and partially today. They were using generators. They still have no water and the kids are using portopotties."
