Herman Cain, former presidential candidate, radio host, hospitalized after COVID-19 diagnosis

Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain has been diagnosed with coronavirus.

His staff made the announcement on Cain’s Twitter account that he is undergoing treatment in Atlanta.

Cain was at President Donald Trump’s rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on June 20. At least eight of the campaign’s staffers who attended the rally tested positive for COVID-19, CNN reported.

Dan Calabrese, the editor for Cain’s website, HermainCain.com, said the radio host has been traveling frequently and was recently also in Arizona where cases are increasing.

A campaign spokesperson told CNN that Cain did not interact with Trump at the time of the rally. But he posted a photo to Twitter of himself at the rally, not wearing a mask.

Health experts questioned whether the rally should have been held in an indoor location, saying it had the potential of becoming a “super spreader” event. The Centers for Disease Control said any group gatherings should have people separated by six feet and to wear masks, USA Today reported.

The rally’s official attendance number was set at about 6,200, but Cain said there was at least 16,000 in the arena that can hold up to 19,000, according to USA Today.

Cain had stage 4 colon cancer that spread to his liver in 2006. The next year he was deemed cancer-free, CNN reported.
