WELD COUNTY, Colo. — The suspect in a Colorado road rage incident was seriously injured after a freight train struck the arresting officer’s cruiser.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the crash occurred just after 7:30 p.m. Friday, KDVR reported.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation confirmed to KUSA that a report of an alleged road rage incident involving a firearm set off the chain of events.
According to the bureau, a Platteville officer located the suspect’s vehicle and executed a stop during which the woman stopped her vehicle just beyond a set of railroad tracks, while the patrol officer stopped his cruiser on the tracks behind her vehicle, the TV station reported.
The officer, assisted by two Fort Lupton officers, conducted a high-risk traffic stop, detaining the 20-year-old Greeley, Colorado, woman on suspicion of felony menacing and placing her in the back of the Platteville’s patrol car, CBI stated.
As the officers worked to clear the woman’s vehicle as part of their investigation, however, a northbound train struck the Platteville cruiser, KUSA reported.
No officers were injured in the crash, but the woman, who has not been identified publicly, was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, the TV station reported.
Platteville police chief Carl Dwyer confirmed to KUSA that the officer involved in the incident has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
