Two dead after motorist strikes shopper, then crashes into Publix

An 80-year-old woman and a 71-year-old man both died Thursday after the woman's car struck the man in front of a suburban Delray Beach Publix, then crashed into the building, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

According to a report, Sarah Agosta was near the Publix Super Market in the Shops of San Marco plaza on Jog Road north of Atlantic Avenue at about 5 p.m. when she lost control and accelerated toward the store.

Eric Small had just left the store and was walking to his car when Agosta's 2018 Kia Soul crashed into him, then struck the building, the report said.

Both people were taken to Delray Medical Center, where they died, the report said.

The sheriff's report did not list home towns for either person and did not indicate the extent of damage to the store or whether it was closed for any duration. Publix officials weren't immediately available.
