Downtown Jacksonville murals paint picture of African-American heritage

Jacksonville, FL. — The Lift Every Voice Project was started by Art Republic in Jacksonville.

The organizer got the project going last year, and it kicked off in early Aug.

By Oct. 15, fifteen murals will be complete around town that represent African American heritage.

The organizer, Jessica Santiago, said there is rich culture in the area that needs to be recognized.

She saw the modern-day civil rights movement and decided it was the perfect time to start the project.

The project is privately funded by local sponsors.

Since 2016, Art Republic has helped bring 47 murals to downtown and make Jacksonville nationally recognized as an art location.

This most recent project includes work from local and national artists, some from as far as Los Angeles.
