Blind campers learned how to surf at the Camp Abilities first annual Surf Camp held on Saturday, April 29 in Neptune Beach. Jax Surf and Paddle hosted the lessons on Saturday morning.
Camp Abilities North Florida is the only camp of its kind in the state. Started by two local teachers, the camp's mission is to give students with visual disabilities the same experiences that other kids have. They have events throughout the year leading up to the summer camp, which is a six day sleep away camp.
The camp also hosts fundraisers throughout the year to limit the cost of camp for students. Normally camp is $900 for the week but because of the fundraising Camp Abilities North Florida does throughout the year, they are able to keep the cost of camp at $200 for campers.
