Deputies investigate murder-suicide in St. Johns County

A St. Johns County couple is dead, and deputies still aren't sure who's responsible.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A family member found 49-year-old Cheryl Parker Carlyle and her 57-year-old husband David Lee Carlyle at their home on Plumton Court at 11 a.m. Friday.

St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Cmdr. Chuck Mulligan said it appears to be a murder-suicide, and said the Carlyles died before help arrived.

"Deputies entered the residence to ensure that there was nothing that we could do first-aid wise. Then we secured the scene and waited for a search warrant, which is protocol," Mulligan said.

For seven hours, crimes scene technicians searched for clues, and Mulligan said family members are helping piece together what happened.

"We've got some timeline from the family member who discovered them, so we do have some information that we are working with," he said.

Action News found Cheryl Carlyle is a former insurance agent, and is the registered president of a small mobility business in Duval County.

Mulligan said they are also parents and that some of their children live at the home.

"To the best of our knowledge no one witnessed the actual event," Mulligan said.

Mulligan said so far they have no other information that leads them to other suspects.
