4 Florida universities among the Top 100 in the country

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Deciding where to go to college is a daunting decision for anyone in that position. Do you go to a state school or out of state? Do you start at community college or go straight to a four-year school?

Luckily for people in Florida, 4 of the state’s universities are in the Top 100 of U.S. News & World Report’s “Best National University Rankings.”

The magazine said it “assessed an all-time high of 1,500 U.S. bachelor’s degree-granting institutions on 17 measures of academic quality.”

“U.S. News’ directory of institutions contains each school’s rankings data and key characteristics about majors, campus life, costs of attending, and more,” the magazine said.

Here’s how Florida’s universities fared:

#29: University of Florida: “University of Florida is a public institution that was founded in 1853. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 34,881 (fall 2021), its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 2,000 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. University of Florida’s ranking in the 2022-2023 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, #29. Its in-state tuition and fees are $6,380; out-of-state tuition and fees are $28,658.”

#55 (tie): Florida State University: “Florida State University is a public institution that was founded in 1851. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 33,593 (fall 2021), its setting is city, and the campus size is 487 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. Florida State University’s ranking in the 2022-2023 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, #55. Its in-state tuition and fees are $6,517; out-of-state tuition and fees are $21,683.”

#55 (tie): University of Miami: “University of Miami is a private institution that was founded in 1925. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 12,089 (fall 2021), its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 239 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. University of Miami’s ranking in the 2022-2023 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, #55. Its tuition and fees are $57,194.”

#97 (tie): University of South Florida: “University of South Florida is a public institution that was founded in 1956. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 33,077 (fall 2021), its setting is urban, and the campus size is 1,646 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. University of South Florida’s ranking in the 2022-2023 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, #97. Its in-state tuition and fees are $6,410; out-of-state tuition and fees are $17,324.”
