JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An 18-year-old man has been charged in the death of a Jacksonville Transportation Authority bus driver in early July.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded July 12 to the death of Kenneth Hawkins, who was a JTA bus driver.
Hawkins was found dead in his driveway.
JSO said Hawkins and the suspect, Jamil Thomas, knew each other prior to the incident. Thomas told police that Hawkins was a father figure to him.
Thomas went to Hawkins' home on the day of the incident. The two got into an argument, which turned into a fight. Thomas allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Hawkins multiple times in the chest.
Thomas was charged with second-degree murder.
It is not known what the argument was about. JSO is continuing to investigate.
