JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A recently engaged couple was shot in a car in Jacksonville’s Durkeeville neighborhood on Wednesday night.
The man, Alton Atmore, 42, died from his injuries. His fiancée is in the hospital and is expected to survive.
Around 4:54 p.m. police responded to reports of two people shot on West 15th Street.
Police believe the shooting happened inside the car, and the shooter ran away.
A short time after the shooting, a person related to the shooting showed up at the Police Memorial Building. At last word from investigators, he was being interviewed.
Action News Jax spoke to Atmore’s sister in a phone conversation.
“That’s my blood brother, we have the same mom and the same Dad,” said Consuela Atmore. “I was shocked! I just talked to him a couple of days ago.”
