A man accused of scamming women looking for love is behind bars

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Brian Wedgeworth was busted in Suwannee County in October for driving without a license. But Action News Jax has learned he is wanted in several states for theft by deception and violating his parole.

Over the years, women have accused him of using dating sites to try and con them. They said he claims to be a doctor and says he wants to spend money on them or pay their bills.

Action News Jax talked to Tekesia Johnson in June 2017. She said Wedgeworth convinced her to buy him $3,000 worth of watches. On Tuesday, we spoke to her over the phone.

"I'm happy to know that I have helped other women not to experience the things that I went through," she said.

Action News Jax tracked some of Wedgeworth's activity for the last few years.

In February 2017, he was released from prison in Georgia, where he had been serving time for forgery.

About four months later, Johnson said he was in Jacksonville and targeted her through a dating site.

In 2018, Tallahassee police sent out a warning, letting women know Wedgeworth was in the area and was targeting women.

In October 2019, a woman from Virginia told Action News Jax that Wedgeworth had contacted her through Bumble, a dating app.

Dawn Arroyo saw our report and confronted him.

"I sent him a screenshot of his mug shot, and I said, 'This looks like you, too,' and then he disappeared," she said.

According to records, Wedgeworth's parole is supposed to be up at the end of the month. He's in a Florida jail, and he will be sent back to Georgia for violating his parole.
