JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — September marks Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, prompting medical professionals to highlight the risks and treatment options associated with the condition.
Dr. Jaymeson Stroud, a physician at the Ackerman Cancer Center, is working to raise awareness about early detection and key warning signs.

While prostate cancer has no single origin, age remains a major risk factor for men.
Approximately six out of 10 diagnoses occur in males ages 65 or older, though the disease carries a significant survival rate if identified in its initial stages.

Prostate cancer can develop without any initial symptoms, making routine health checkups critical for early identification.
Stroud emphasized that warning signs are not always obvious in the early stages of abnormal cell growth.

“Prostate cancer is one of those cancers that can develop with no symptoms,” Stroud said.
Stroud said difficulty emptying the bladder serves as one potential warning sign of the condition.
To assist in catching the disease early, Stroud recommends that men past age 50 receive an annual PSA blood screening test.
