Added police presence at Terry Parker High School following violent threat

There is an added police presence at Terry Parker High School Tuesday after the school was made aware of a threat of potential violence posted on social media Monday.

Students will be searched with metal detectors as they enter the school, official said.

Principal Pardue said the following in a voicemail message sent to parents Monday:

"Hello parents and guardians of Terry Parker High School. This is Principal Pardue calling. As you know, we strive to maintain a safe and secure learning environment and build trust with the relationships between our students, staff, and family. For this reason, I want to let you know that we were informed last night of a social media message stating a threat of potential violence at our school today. We take all threats like this very seriously and it is being investigated by law-enforcement. To ensure the safety of our students and staff, we will have additional police presence on campus today and we will be performing searches of students using handheld metal detectors as they arrive to school. I do want to commend the individual who reported this threat. The concept of "see something, say something" remains the most important strategy for students and family to assist in making it a safe school. We all play a role in keeping Terry Parker a safe and productive learning environment. I greatly appreciate your support and partnership as we work together for the safety and success of all students. Have a great day, and we look forward to seeing your children in our schools later this morning."
