Woman dead after Northside shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman is dead after a shooting on Jacksonville’s Northside Saturday night.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to the shooting just after 5 p.m. to a home in the 13000 block of Yellow Bluff Road near New Berlin Road, in the Oceanway area.

A man in his 60s shot a woman in her 50s in the chest and drove away in a black Chevy truck, said JSO.

The victim’s neighbor, Heather Nicholson, said she never expected a crime scene to pop up right behind her home.

“It was mind blowing,” said Nicholson. “We’d been gone all day and my mom called and said ‘don’t be alarmed when you come home, the neighborhoods blocked off.’”

The suspect was arrested at 6:40 p.m. in the 2200 block of Longreene Road, which is about six miles from the incident. JSO said a handgun was recovered, but can't say if it was the gun used in the shooting at this time.

JSO said  the shooter and the victim knew each other, but didn’t say what type of relationship it was.

Officers are continuing to investigate.
