NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — A 36-year-old Nassau County man got into an argument with his aunt and killed her before shooting himself, Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper said.
Authorities said James Aaron Proffitt got into a verbal argument inside the home between the suspect’s mother and his aunt, who also lived there, over a parking space.
Proffitt retrieved a handgun from his room, shot and killed Melinda Sue Lein, 55, deputies said. Proffitt then shot and killed himself with the handgun.
The incident happened on Swallowfork Lane in Callahan.
Proffitt had no criminal history, Leeper said.
It's the second murder-suicide of the week in the county.
Officials said deputies found Lowell Stanley, 43, and his wife Rebecca Suzanne Stanley, 40, died from gunshot wounds at their Bryceville home on New Year's Eve.
