Baker County parents charged in 2019 death of 2-month-old girl

Baker County, Fla. — The Baker County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two people in connection to a 2-month-old’s death in late 2019.

Deputies say their investigation began on September 28 after the baby was found unresponsive in her bassinet at her Glen St. Mary home.

At the time of her death, there were reportedly more than 10 people, including a toddler, living in the home, which investigators say was filled with trash and cockroaches. An 11th person was also living in a shed on the property.

According to BCSO, the baby’s cause of death was unable to be determined, but detectives and medical professionals established there were “injuries to the child indicative of physical and/or sexual abuse.”

After what the Sheriff’s Office is calling an “extensive investigation,” the infant’s parents have been arrested.

Louis Barton, 36, and Savanah Brannen, 22, are charged with child neglect resulting in great bodily harm, a second degree felony.

Investigators do not know specifically who hurt the baby, but say the parents failed to provide care and supervision that could have prevented the abuse.

Barton and Brannen are each in custody at the Baker County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.
