BEAKS rescues 3 injured bald eagles in 48 hours

An apparent bald eagle was spotted on the side of Interstate 295 Wednesday afternoon.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An apparently injured bald eagle was spotted on the side of Interstate 295 Wednesday afternoon.

Drivers stopped alongside the highway between Gate Parkway and Baymeadows Road to check on the eagle around noon. The bald eagle did not appear to be moving.

Witnesses contacted Birds Emergency Aid and Kare Sanctuary (BEAKS). However, before BEAKS arrived, the bald eagle flew off.

BEAKS was able to rescue the eagle around 2 p.m. by luring the bird with chicken. BEAKS said it has been trying to find the eagle for about three weeks.

Our crews were also there when BEAKS saved a baby eagle in east Arlington. The bird's sibling died after their nest blew out of a tree.

Officials for the group say the birds are not being targeted and the cases are not related

"It really makes you sad because these are magnificent creatures," said Cindy Mosling of BEAKS.

Another bald eagle actually flew itself to BEAKS bird sanctuary earlier this week.

We're told all three birds should survive with the right care.
