Bernie Sanders campaign headquarters opens in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Supporters celebrated the opening of Bernie Sanders’ Jacksonville campaign headquarters Friday evening.

Organizers said as many as 200 volunteers have helped the Bernie Sanders campaign effort in Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville office on North Main Street is one of three campaign headquarters in Florida. The other offices are in Miami and Orlando.

Jacksonville campaign coordinator Kristellys Estanga said Florida gives Sanders a chance to reach out to minority communities and young voters.

"Florida gives Bernie another chance to reach out to a diverse community. Predominantly Hispanics and African-Americans make up a large population in our state," said Estanga. "Also it gives us a chance to see how the young voters will come out to vote on March 15th because we have a lot of college institutions."

There are other grass roots campaign offices in St. Augustine, Ocala, Tallahassee and Gainesville.

Supporters at the office Friday said they are enthusiastic despite Sanders second place spot in the polls.

“We always keep hammering away the fact that we got to stick to the issues,” Estanga said. “It's something that Bernie Sanders has been really, really clear about since the beginning.”
