JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The City of Jacksonville has activated its “Cooling Center Contingency Plan,” with cooling centers set to activate across the city on Tuesday from now through 8 p.m.
The First Alert Weather Team said the feels like temperatures will approach 110°F in many neighborhoods and a few spots could briefly approach 113°F.

The city’s plan, which builds on previous years’ efforts, will see cooling centers open at various city facilities, including libraries, community centers, pools, and splash pads.
Monday-Saturday Locations: For extreme heat events on Mondays through Saturdays, Cooling Centers will be activated at various City of Jacksonville (COJ) facilities under normal hours of operation. These facilities will be open regardless of whether activation thresholds are met, and they include:
- All COJ Public Libraries (21 libraries): Accessible and air-conditioned spaces.
- All COJ Community Centers (20 centers): Available in multiple neighborhoods.
- All Splash Pads (18 pads) and Cecil Aquatics Center (the other COJ pools are now only open on weekends due to school being back in session): Provide immediate cooling relief.

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority will provide free transportation to cooling centers on designated heat emergency days. Riders must let the bus driver know they are heading to a cooling center, the City said.
The City is encouraging people to avoid outdoor activity now through 4 p.m., but those who do need to be outside should find shade and take frequent breaks.
