JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The city of Jacksonville is preparing for a huge weekend full of events in downtown Jacksonville that could make for a traffic nightmare.
The city says it will be a challenge but they are confident in their plan.
Officials are expecting nearly 70,000 people in the sports complex area, attending 10 different events this weekend.
Metro Park is being set up for Rockville, the biggest event this weekend.
Biggest thing you need to know is that Gator Bowl Boulevard will be closed starting Saturday morning.
To make it simple remember this, if coming to Rockville, head to the East side of the stadium, parking lots you see in green. Those lots and some private lots around Talleyrand are for Rockville attendees.
If you are attending any other event like the Greek Festival, Kevin Hart comedy shows, Suns games or prom, go to the west side of the stadium.
Officials have been working on this plan for months and say it will be challenging but they are confident.
“We're manipulating lights and we're opening up streets and making parking lots available and as one lot empties up we're filing another one. So it's a lot of communication, a lot of teamwork, a lot of effort from a lot of people other than JSO to make this seamless for the people coming downtown,” said Assistant Chief Leonard Proper, with JSO special events.
Action News learned that the Main Street Bridge was supposed to be closed for work this weekend, but FDOT has decided to open it partially but only one lane in each direction.
Take time and remember Rockville to the east, and everything else to the west of the stadium.
