City wants refund on water taxis; Admits mistake in purchasing process

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Following an Action News investigation, the city of Jacksonville is admitting it violated the process to buy two water taxis.

Leaders say it should've consulted City Council before buying the boats.

Now, the Mayor's Office doesn't want the boats and is fighting for a refund.  The fight could get tricky and end up in court.

The city sent a letter to Trident Pontoons, demanding it return the $338,000 payment for the boats.

The city told Action News it doesn't want the boats since the company didn't deliver them on time.

According to the mayor's chief administrative officer, Trident promised the boats would be on the water by last Friday, and no later than Saturday morning.

On Wednesday, the city asked the company to hold off on delivering the boats. The mayor's office said the request was ignored.

On Thursday, Action News was there when the first boat arrived. The second one has yet to be delivered.

If Trident doesn't comply with a full refund the city says it'll be forced to take legal action.
