Clay County Sheriff’s Office investigating after racist flyers tossed on Middleburg properties

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is calling racist messages left in a Middleburg neighborhood “disgusting.”

Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook said it happened in the Lake Asbury area off County Road 220 near Middleburg High School.

Action News Jax’s Nick Gibson spoke with several neighbors who didn’t even know this propaganda was sitting in their yard.

One resident who didn’t want to be identified on camera said it’s very hurtful to see this in his community.

The message, which was on a piece of paper in a plastic baggie with sand inside of it, said, “Wake up white man, your race is being replaced. Stop race mixing, stop immigration, and white man created civilization and everything good in it.”

Another resident said he is surprised to see this because he said in their neighborhood, it’s very diverse. He said this doesn’t make him feel good.

“I’m Puerto Rican, I guess a minority of sorts. But I still don’t support it, I support America and everything. That racial propaganda should not be touted around here,” he said.

Cook took to Facebook about the flyers, saying “this is disgusting and disappointing, and this is not reflective of our community.”

She said CCSO is investigating this incident.
