Middleburg High School student hurt after hit by a vehicle on County Road 218

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Clay County Fire Rescue responded after child was hit by vehicle on County Road 218 in Clay County.

At the time of the incident, a red GMC Sierra was traveling westbound and a school bus was traveling eastbound. The school bus driver approached Melanie Lane before the intersection and turned on the cautionary lighting to let other drivers know the bus was coming to a stop.

According to FHP, the driver of the GMC car began to slow down for the pending stop. A 14-year-old student began to cross the road towards the bus without looking for incoming cars.

The GMC struck the the child on the lane of travel.

According to Clay County’s Public Information Officer, rescue personnel responded to the scene at roughly 6:36 a.m. The child has been transported to a local hospital.

According to Clay County School District, it was Middleburg High School student.

Clay County Fire Rescue just announced that the roadway is clear for drivers.
