Green Cove Springs Police investigating possibility of outstanding suspects in fatal triple shooting

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. — Skyler Townsend, 18, died after a triple shooting on Center Street in Green Cove Springs last Tuesday.

A spokesperson with the Green Cove Springs Police Department tells Action News Jax they’re investigating the possibility of outstanding suspects in the shooting. The spokesperson says there are currently no descriptions of outstanding suspects.

On Sunday, police announced the arrests of Kieshawn Ray Capri Smith, 23, and Daveion Austin, 20, on charges of armed robbery in connection to the triple shooting.

Smith and Austin are not charged in Townsend’s shooting.

Family says Townsend graduated high school early, loved making TikTok videos and had a laugh they’ll never forget.

Now, they’re tasked with planning the teen’s funeral.

“I just want to know what happened to my son,” said Nikki Miller, Townsend’s mother. “And why? Why?”

Townsend’s mother says she tried calling him several times on the evening of shooting, but he didn’t answer his phone. She says it wasn’t like him to not answer his phone.

Miller says they tracked his phone to his last known location, Center Street.

“I drove there, is what happened, I drove there. And when I got there, they told me my son had been shot and killed and to get to the police station,” said Miller.

“We have suffered the ultimate loss,” said Shane Crawdoug, Townsend’s uncle. “I would say we’re angry, we want justice, we deserve to know the facts.”

Family tells Action News Jax they’re demanding answers, and justice.

“Stop all the senseless violence! Stop! We’ve got to do better,” said Miller.
