Passenger killed in Oakleaf crash, FHP says driver was speeding

Deadly crash in Clay County

One person is dead and another is seriously hurt following a crash in Clay County late Monday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the single-car crash happened at 11:44 p.m. on Laurelwood Drive while approaching the roundabout at Parkview Drive.

The 2012 Chrysler 200 was traveling a high rate of speed, when its driver “failed to properly negotiate the roundabout and drove off the road,” the FHP traffic report stated. The car then collided with several trees.

Troopers said the driver, a 35-year-old Jacksonville man, was taken to Orange Park Medical Center with serious injuries.

The passenger, a 31-year-old Middleburg woman, died at the crash site.

Both were not wearing a seat belt, the report stated.
