Coop 303 teams up with Adventures in God's Creation to help the Bahamas

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. — Jacksonville is stepping up to help our neighbors in the Bahamas.

All day Friday people donated much needed supplies to Hurricane Dorian relief efforts throughout the city.

One of the relief drives was at Coop 303 in Atlantic Beach.

Richard Rosenblum made sure to bring his leftover water bottles so they can go to people who really need them.

"My kids, they'll drink tap water. They're fine," said Rosenblum.

It's that willingness to help that motivates Suela Monsur. She owns Coop 303 and is also an active member of the group Adventures in God's Creation.

She helped organize this relief drive because for her the Bahamas holds a special place.

"Spend a lot of time in Cat Island. There is an orphanage there that I went to many times, I volunteered my time for these kids," said Monsur.

It's the kids that motivated Betty Strickland to donate a whole box full of supplies.

"I brought lots of diapers, formula, wipes, baby food and also feminine products, because they're going to need them," said Strickland.

Monsur has been in the heat all day sorting supplies in neat piles because organization is key.

"Each bin is going to be for one family," said Monsur.

If anyone knows what it's like to survive a hurricane it's Floridians. It's why those who donated today say they can't ignore the Bahamas.

Monsur will be driving a U-Haul truck filled with supplies to Ft. Lauderdale on Sunday where they will be loaded onto boats that will sail to the affected areas.

She said she's been in touch with people on the ground who are sending her supply lists.

If you couldn't make it out to Coop 303 today, they will be back out on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. collecting supplies.

Coop 303 has also created the Bahama Sunrise beverage. All the money made on the beverage will go toward the relief effort.
