Criminals target Christmas decoration projectors in Clay County

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — In the last week-and-a-half, at least four homes have been hit by thieves on the prowl for Christmas decorations in Clay County.

Last week, we told you two homes in Oakleaf Plantation and a home in Fleming Island was hit. The thieves stole a deer and multiple Christmas projectors.

Then, another family in Fleming Island filed a report.

“This is the first year I had all the Christmas lights and stuff,” said Jackee Jones, a neighbor.

Jones said she learned her neighbor’s home was hit. She said just like the previous cases, someone targeted her neighbor's Christmas projector.

“She said it was the projector light, where they actually had to unscrew it and stuff,” Jones said.

She said neighbors have been on the lookout for the thieves and have kept each other updated via social media.

“It's supposed to be Christmas and fun. Not scared,” Jones said.

Jones said hearing about the thefts made her rethink putting all of her decorations out this year.

Some neighbors who had their decorations stolen said they will be putting up surveillance cameras.
