Diaper Bank to give families 8,000 diapers Saturday

JACKSONVILLE — The Diaper Bank for Northeast Florida plans to give out 8,000 diapers to families in the Jacksonville area Saturday. So far this year, the organization has distributed over 100,000 diapers.

Action News Jax caught up with Judy Wilson. She has seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Many stay with her most of the time. Every week, she collects diapers from Baby Luv through the Diaper Bank for Northeast Florida.

“If it wasn’t for Baby Luv, I don’t know what I’d do,” Wilson said.

The Wilsons are just one of around 250 families the diaper bank serves each week.

Crystal Parks founded the organization back in 2019 when she saw a huge need in the Jacksonville community. Parks says requests for diapers have been increasing ever since.

“We’re getting calls almost every week from case managers, churches, and other non-profit organizations seeking diapers on behalf of their clients,” Parks said.

Parks keeps a large stockpile handy, but if it weren’t for donors in the community, there wouldn’t be a diaper bank.

“The community support has been amazing. We’ve collected over 60,000 diapers from our local community to help local families,” Parks said.

Wilson can’t express enough her gratitude to those who help keep the diaper bank afloat.

“I mean it makes me cry. If Baby Luv wasn’t there I don’t know what we would do. They’re really special to me,” Wilson said.

She plans to be lined up at the giveaway bright and early Saturday morning.

The giveaway will kick off at 10:00 a.m. at these two locations:

  • Impact Church at 9501 Atlantic Blvd.

Online registration is required: facebook.com/RAJacksonville

  • Justina Road Elementary Park at 3143 Justina Rd.
