JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Mandarin Mustangs faced off against the Raines Vikings at 6:30 on Friday in one of the hottest matchups. But some families couldn’t get tickets because they were sold out on the Go Fan vendor. Action News Jax was tipped off that this may have been due to ticket scalping.
Essentially, some suspect “local entrepreneurs” bought tickets in bulk, causing them to sell out, and then supposedly resold them at a higher price for profit.
Action News Jax was tipped off to this Facebook poster apparently selling Mandarin @ Raines tickets for $50. He later claimed to be almost sold out, on top of a post about Friday’s game, then later claimed he was sold out.
“I have people that was trying to buy tickets and said it was all sold out, and they couldn’t get in the game,” said Sheron Wilson, whose grandchildren attend Raines.
Want to see pigskins tossed around Friday night? The tipster also told us about another Facebook poster claiming they were selling tickets for $100 a pop on September 3. But conflicting comments on Facebook raise questions over whether this poster’s claim was true.
“Tickets are for the people wanted to come to the game and pay the regular price,” Wilson added.
Duval County Public Schools said in a phone call with Action News Jax that they’ve been aware of the alleged scalping schemes since late Thursday, early Friday. In a statement Friday, they told Action News Jax in part: “We have been made aware of the ticket scalping situation and do not condone these activities. It is disappointing to learn of these unethical practices, and Duval County Public Schools will work with our ticketing vendor, GoFan, to better understand what occurred and identify ways to mitigate these practices moving forward.” — Sonya Duke Bolden, DCPS Coordinator, Strategic Communications
James Leccount says he’s the brother of a Raines High School Hall of Fame football player. Leccount says he himself was a quarterback for Riebault in the 70s. He had a solution to the scalping—
“I think that’s kind of bad; you know we ought to have a limit of tickets being sold per person,” said Leccount.
The tickets usually sell for $10.
Action News Jax reached out to both posters allegedly selling tickets, and we’re waiting to hear back.
