Disney on Ice returns to Jacksonville this weekend

DUVAL COUNTY — Looking for something cool to do this weekend? Why not check out Disney on Ice.

Disney on Ice is back in Jacksonville and it’s bringing its “Dream Big” tour with it.

That means everyone’s favorites are back like Mickey, Minnie, Genie, and more.

Shanda DeWitt, a performer for Disney on Ice, plays Elsa from “Frozen.”

“It’s actually very heartwarming for me. I have a pretty big role and I’m so lucky and grateful to have that,” DeWitt said.

Last year Disney on Ice was canceled three weeks before showtime when the pandemic first hit and everything went on lockdown.

Colleen Clancy, a performer who plays Cinderella, told me that the show was on hiatus for eight months.

“Knowing that I couldn’t come in every day and perform for audiences and do what I love was really hard,” Clancy said.

Now shows will look a little different because of new safety measures in place to protect the audience.

You must wear a face mask which you can take off while eating and drinking.

Seating will also be pod-style to help families stay safe together.

Disney on Ice features over 200 costumes and more than 100 props.

Crews with the tour arrived Sunday and spent days getting the set ready for the shows.

The performers have been waiting for months to skate once again in front of a live audience.

“It’s a limited audience but it doesn’t, even matter because you get to see their faces and they’re so happy and dancing and smiling and sometimes they sing along with my solo and it really just makes me feel so wonderful,” DeWitt said.

Shows are Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
