A dog named “Maple Bacon On A Biscuit” is in the running for a rather unusual recognition

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — Each year, Nationwide’s pet insurance team celebrates some of the craziest names among its insured pets and Maple Bacon On A Biscuit was among the “Wacky Pet Names” finalists that were announced today.


Maple Bacon On A Biscuit has a condition that caused her to be born without eyes, but despite these challenges she helps others by acting as a therapy dog for nursing homes.

The wackiest names in each category will be determined by a public vote that runs now through June 9 with the top cat, dog and exotic pet names being announced on Tuesday, June 13.

Here is the complete list of 30 honorees. Beyond the traditional cat and dog categories, a new exotic pets category has been added this year and those nominees include rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, a bird, a tortoise, and a pot-bellied pig.
