JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The SAT is arguably the biggest test a high school student will take. Just ask Chris Gonzalez; he prepares students for the test at the Huntington Learning Center.
“The SAT is a tough test for a lot of kids. It holds tremendous weight for a lot of the students in the area getting into college,” Gonzalez said.
The College Board announced Tuesday the SAT will be digital starting in 2024.
“I think kids nowadays are so used to doing things on computers – most of their tests are digital anyway – so I don’t think it will impact them too much,” Gonzalez said.
According to the College Board, not only is the SAT going fully digital, it’ll also be shortened from three hours to two, and with more time per question.
“Shortening it is only going to benefit the students, in my opinion, to be able to be more focused for a set amount of time rather than a longer time is really going to benefit that student,” Gonzalez said.

Calculators will also be allowed for the entire math section, a change Gonzalez welcomes.
He said the College Board is taking steps in the right direction.
“I think they’re doing this with the student in mind and this will greatly benefit that student when they’re taking the test,” he said.

The College Board also said the test being digital will allow for students and teachers to get test scores back in days instead of weeks.
The digital SAT will not be an at-home test, either. Students will still take it at school or in a testing center, the College Board said.
The College Board said students will be able to use their own laptop or a school-issued one. If they don’t have a device, the College Board will provide one on test day. If a student loses connectivity or power, the digital SAT has been designed to ensure they won’t lose their work or time while they reconnect.
Students will also have access to technical support on test day.
