• Driver found alive in submerged car

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. - A driver was found alive in a submerged car early Saturday morning in St. Johns County.

A witness tells Action News the man was swerving before he crashed into a retention pond near I-95 and International Golf Parkway. That man says he immediately turned around, and called police when he saw headlights shining through the water.

Divers with the St. Johns County Fire Department arrived on scene and managed to locate the driver, who was taken to the hospital.

Jeremy Robshaw with the Fire Department said they estimate the car was in the water for about 20 minutes before divers pulled the man from the water.

The car was left in the water but a wrecker is expected to return to the crash site later Saturday morning to find it and tow it away.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
