Drivers concerned about safety on Buckman Bridge

A FDOT recent study shows there is a one in 20 million chance of a vehicle going over one of their safety barriers on that bridge.

Tuesday Action News Jax spoke with a FDOT spokesman who said the study determined the bridge is structurally safe.

“So many people are driving so fast,” driver Cermeliea Ubas said, “I try to be safe because I don’t have a choice to drive another place.”

FDOT said a 2015 study of the Buckman Bridge revealed 61 percent of the crashes on the bridge are due to careless driving, 13 percent due to improper driving actions, and 7 percent because of improper or illegal lane changes.
